About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Acute Receiving Unit (Units 1-5)

(as a relative),

My mum was admitted via GP referral for investigations into anaemia. She was admitted to 1 ward and within an hour was again moved to another ward. She was never offered a water jug thankfully I had bought her some water. On changing her blood transfusion blood was spilt twice when    I visited 12 hours later the blood was still on the floor.

Dear Noo77

I was sorry to hear of your Mothers experience during her stay at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. I hope that she is making a good recovery.

The patients when they attend the Immediate Assessment Area (IAU) are first assessed and then if required to stay in hospital admitted to another area. I am sorry if that was not explained to you when you arrived. We are reviewing our communication and documentation for the GPs referring patients and also for patients attending so that they know what to expect.

I’m sorry that water was not provided and they should never be an instance that you had to provide your own. We take the hygiene of the hospital very seriously and particularly the spillage of body fluids. I have shared your experience with the Lead Nurse for the area so that we can share your experience with the staff.

Kind Regards

Carol-Ann Jamieson

General Manager

Update posted by Noo77 (a relative)

Thank you for the prompt response. Mum was initially in the IAU then moved to ARU3 within an hour of this move she was then moved again to ward 8D. She is progressing well and has her follow up test appointment for next week.
