My mother recently had a fall at home and was admitted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. After receiving an X-ray it was very clear that she had fractured her hip. She was quickly transferred to the Orthopaedic ward 212, she was met by kind staff who introduced themselves and showed empathy towards my mum. I found this extremely comfortable as my mum doesn’t like hospitals. Once my mum was settled and we was waiting on the nurse to come speak to us, a young nurse called Lewis introduced himself and asked her what happened and where she came from, he spoke to my mum for at least 5 minutes making her feel at ease and also telling her where he came from which they had giggle about.
A few days later Lewis was back on the ward and he came over to speak to my mum and asked how we was both getting on. I had a couple of questions and he explained them fully and gave me a bit more knowledge of what was the next step for my mum. He even showed us what type of operation my mum got, I was shocked at the weight of the hip joint. I felt when Lewis was on the ward his laugh through out the ward which was infectious and his kind and sensitive manner helped my mum and our family deal better with my mums fall.
We never seen Lewis again as we was told that the staff get moved about the ward.
I would like to thank the kind and experienced nursing staff in ward 212 and also to Lewis who we believe is one of God’s angels. Another nurse told us that he is away to start studying to become a Staff Nurse. On behalf of my family, I wish Lewis all the best in what we believe is the right career for this kind young man.
Thank You.
"My mother’s fall."
