As a trained CBT therapist I self-referred myself to gain access to counselling through the Hounslow IAPT service. I feel very let down by the whole process.
Due to the issues I was facing I tried to sort much of it out by practicing CBT on myself, however after a few weeks I felt that what I really needed was some counselling. On contacting the Hounslow IAPT service and speaking to a CBT therapist for assessment there, on explaining my own background as a therapist and that I was seeking counselling, the first appointment was at a date and time which was inappropriate for me which was 5 weeks after my self referral.
I advised the IAPT service this was not suitable / appropriate for me as I had a hospital appointment, information that I had gone through with the person who took my call.
The therapist felt that what she needed was supervision, when I asked when this could be provided she seemed uncertain, perhaps in the next couple of days but then she herself was going to be away on leave.
As a health care worker / therapist I knew what I needed but getting this support was not straightforward. I find that I will need to go through a more convoluted route to get the support I need.
