"From a worried person on admission to a happy man..."

About: Addenbrooke's Hospital

What I liked

I went into Addenbrookes for a detached retina as an emergency. I was at, or in the hospital for three days. This included my pre-op assessment.

Although when I arrived there was no bed available, I was assured one would be on my return from the operating theatre. From start to finish I found the staff to be professional, caring and with a positive attitude. This is all staff, from the ward staff to the consultant anaesthetist and the consultant surgeon.

I feel that we are very lucky to have this hospital with its many specialist facilities in the East of England and thank you to all staff, night and day, of ward M5 for looking after me and calming my nerves so admirably.

What could be improved

More availability of beds.

Thank you for taking the time to place your comments. We appreciate your concerns about bed availability and please be assured we have been doing all we can to safely place patients and co-ordinate both elective and emergency admissions during this extremely busy period. This includes working with our external partners as well as examining our own processes. We were of course very pleased to learn that the care you received was of such a high standard and please be assured that your kind words have been shared with the nursing, medical and operational teams involved. We hope you are making a good recovery from your surgery.
