My dentist arranged for me to go to A&E at the Gwent as I had an abscess for a week. After getting no help from my own GP or anyone else, my Dentist did all this.
After 11 hours I was waiting for a bed as I was going to theatre to have it drained and teeth extracted. The importance here is that I had osteomyelitis years ago and I have to be careful that I do not swallow poison as I could get it again.
So nil by mouth, premed etc and 3 people came to see me and one, all suited and booted, announced that I was not dying or about to lose a limb so I will have to go back in, in 2 weeks!
The abscess is the size of a half a lemon and I have photographic evidence... and off he walked!
Later a woman came to see me and said 'oh, it won't be 2 weeks, it will be 3 months plus!' I said I am going away in a month and my insurance will not cover me as it is a pre-existing condition. She shrugged her shoulders as like the other man, she didn't seem to care.
In all fairness the few nurses I did have around me were lovely, it's just a shame that they work at the Gwent. I also feel the shortage of beds is a myth. They are all lined up in the corridors, and if you go to the short stay unit there are 3 unused wards full of beds.
