"Long wait in emergency department"

About: Princess Royal University Hospital / Accident and emergency

My daughter was taken to the emergency department by ambulance on the night of 1st May 2019. We arrived at about 11.30 and were seen by a doctor at around 6am. The department appeared very quiet. A wait of 6 and a half hours seems excessive! When I went to enquire about the wait, the lady at the arrivals desk told me that it was nothing to do with her and yet there was no-one at the admin desk to speak to. I understand that there may be circumstances that I am not aware of which meant that the wait was unavoidable but how about communicating that in a kind and human way? The doctor who eventually saw us also basically said 'it's nothing to do with me'! We left in tears, stunned by the lack of humanity, kindness of empathy in the department.

I am sorry to read your comments about your experience with your daughter at the Princess Royal Emergency Department.

There can be long waits but I am sorry that the staff were not helpful in explaining things to you. I will pass your comments onto the team as I know that they will want to share what you experienced so that we can avoid this in future.
