"1 month clean from all opiates"

About: Change Grow Live / CGL Waltham Forest

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I became introduced to depressant substances through a drug of the benzodiazapine class 3-4 years ago and subsequently developed an obsessive and troubling relationship with all such substances (benzos, opiates, alcohol etc. ). I eventually decided to try smoking heroin, assuming it would afford me a greater level of relief from the marathon of misery that I perceived my life to be. After said substance brought me to the depths of misery and have in effect ruined my life - my ambition, my vitality and my mental sharpness - I contacted CGL to help alleviate my suffering. Talking to people with understanding and/or experience of my condition, having got into opiates alone, was greatly reassuring and I am currently 1 month clean from all opiates. The staff have been accommodating and friendly and have been of definite help - I have been able to recognise my condition as not a personal flaw but a disease, and may still be active in my addiction if had not engaged with the service. I consider access to this service to be a great privilege, especially as it is provided for free by the NHS.
