"The care received on Ashton Ward"

About: Kettering General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

The Whole team on Ashton Ward at Kettering General Hospital

I would just like to comment on my recent stay in hospital having had a full knee replacement in early May 2019. Not having to stayed in hospital overnight for over 30 years I was very nervous about going in for my procedure. On arrival I was soon put at ease by the nurses and even though I had several hours to wait I was kept under close supervision and at ease for the whole period.

The Surgeon Mr Plakogiannis and his team were brilliant having come to see me in the morning

to explain that I was second on the list but they will be with me as soon as is practical to perform my procedure.

I was collected by a porter and taken on my bed to the operating theatre with the assistance of one of the nursing staff both were chatty and once again did there best to keep me at ease and once there was greeted by the anaesthetist and his team who explained my options but made suggestions

on what was best for me and that’s what they preceded with. After the procedure I was taken to the recovery room before returning to Ashton Ward.

Now returning to the care of the Ashton Ward nursing staff and assistants I was kept fairly quiet and pain free by the staff. The following morning was the start of the recovery programme involving the surgeon and his staff the nurses with their assistants, Physios, and occupational health and I’m sorry if I've missed anyone but all were brilliant. Some medical concerns were raised and I was taken by porters for x-ray and ultra sound and all proved well and the work continued to get me mobile and discharged as soon as possible. The food was of excellent quality and nothing seemed to much trouble. You were left to your own devices as much as possible but help was on hand if you needed it. I would like to close by stating the whole team involved in my care were excellent and would be concerned for those who thought of the service provided was any less than my experience of excellence.
