I recently attended the new A& E department at Croydon with my partner who had twisted her ankle. We were very impressed with the modern and spacious A& E department which is a great improvement. The staff throughout the visit were great, despite it being busy. We were surprised when we went just up the corridor at the contrast with the X-ray department which was like a 3rd world country.
The room she had the X-ray in had holes and stains in the ceiling and ancient equipment which seemed to be held together with bits of tape. They still seemed to be processing films which I haven't seen done in donkey's years -I've attended multiple appointments at other hospitals with elderly parents in recent years. The machines looked really hard for the staff to move, who were doing their best with what they had to work with. I'm amazed that that such an important part of the service could be so neglected and that people could be expected to be treated and to have to work in such an environment. This did take the shine off an otherwise pleasant visit to Croydon A& E. I hope that you will address this soon. My partner has to go to fracture clinic next week- I hope the X-ray facilities are better there!
