I was referred by my GP to BMI Hendon after being diagnosed with an Inguinal Hernia. I was offered an evening consultation which was very convenient to me, I was seen on time. The surgeon explained everything that was going to happen and risks explained. He offered me surgery very quickly which I declined as I was away, the next date was also soon. I had a pre surgery assessment where again the staff were great and bloods, weight and height were taken. There was plenty of time to ask questions. On the day of surgery I was taken to a private room with its own bathroom. Arrive a 9am with no water after 7am and food, after 3am. The surgeon came in to mark me up and the anaesthetist saw me to explain everything and assess me, he was a lovely man. Two gowns are given one for surgery and one for use as a dressing gown as you walk to theatre. You can wear your own shoes. The nurse looking after me gave me surgical stockings and took my observations. I was given options of food to eat off a hotel style menu. I lady came to the room to walk me to theatre. She gave me a warm blanket and handed me to the anaesthetic team. They were very chatty and next thing I know I am waking up in recovery. No sickness and very alert they looked after me before wheeling me back to my room. The food was excellent and the nurse can regularly to check on me. Pain relief was given as needed. A physiotherapist taught me how to get out of bed and checked my mobility. I was given advice and looking after myself afterwards. For my discharge the nurse issued me with my medication and, a, sick note for work. There is free parking which was used when I was picked up. The site is a bit awkward to get to by public transport. The room was quite hot which hospitals often are, other than that I cannot fault this hospital. The care and staff are excellent.
