On the 20th Feb 2019 I went in for a colonoscopy and hemorrhoid banding.
I was very nervous and told the nurse (who was lovely) that I would definitely want to be sedated & she assured me I’m the patient I’m in charge & just to tell the surgeon.
So on arrival in surgery I met a very unfriendly surgeon who told me I was having gas & air as it’s a very painless process. I said no I really want to be sedated & I was quite firm so after mumbling to the nurses in the room something I was quickly fitted with a cannula but it was very clear to me that this was in his mind unnecessary.
I was wheeled into the operating theatre & quickly put into position on my side.
The surgeon gave me the sedative through the cannula but within seconds he started the colonoscopy.
There was no time for the sedative to take affect & I felt pain like no other & believe me as I’ve had 4 children I know what pain is.
I screamed for him to stop so in what must have been a minute or 2 he stopped what he was doing & said he was finished.
I was taken back to my room in agony but finally the sedative started to take affect & I slowly started to feel some relief.
I was told the surgeon had banded a couple of hemorrhoids & I was sent on my way.
To be quite honest for weeks after I felt quite traumatised by the whole thing & now months on I have no improvement in my original situation (which I’m not surprised as I dont believe he did what he was supposed to do), so my whole ordeal was for nothing and I’m back to square one.
