I arrived at hospital in the early hours of the morning due to a tia.I was in my pyjamas. All day I had excellent treatment and by 6.30 pm i was ready to be discharged.I told the doctor I couldn’t get anyone to take me home as my daughter has 3 children under 10 who can’t be left alone and my sister had gone on holiday that morning for a week.I asked about a hospital taxi and was refused because it would take a couple of hours.I was then asked if I had a card to pay for a taxi and I said yes but not all taxis use them. Then I was told I could pop downstairs to cash machine and get money to book my own taxi,This after I had been getting lost all over the hospital all day due to dementia. The nurses had to keep sending someone to find me,in the end I managed to get my brother in law to come from Bradford to take me the ten minutes from hospital to home,I was made to feel that it was about paying for transport home but it wasn’t,I felt really vulnerable and unsteady on my feet all day,And I didn’t feel safe to be sorting my self out to go home on my own.I would gladly have paid for a hospital taxi and I told the staff this.Due to my history this will happen again unfortunately but I will make sure that whoever brings me to hospital dresses me first and I will also make sure I have the means to get back home safely. There should be a procedure for vulnerable people’s discharge so they are not made to feel inferior and begging for a free ride home,It was never about this,I had no one to take me home or I would have been on my way as soon as I could go.Apart from this upsetting episode my care during the day from the many different departments was excellent,
