"Parking Issue - no regard for others"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres

(as the patient),

I recently attended hairmyres for a treadmill test. Having spent 40 minutes driving around the car park looking for a parking space I was happy to finally find one. Although 10 mins late for my appt I managed to attend only to be told that my blood pressure was too high to continue with the procedure. On leaving the dept and returning to my car I discovered someone had parked next to me and also behind me. None of these were designated spaces. My car was completely boxed in! ! ! ! ! ! I was attending this appt during my working day and needed to get back to work asap. I ended up having to call a taxi to collect me from the hospital to go back to work. I then went back to hospital at 6pm when my wife was able to drive me to collect my car. I cannot believe the selfishness of others who think it is acceptable to leave their cars parked like this with no regard for how others are going to be able to get out. I am unsure how long my car remained boxed in.

Dear Never forget,

I’m so sorry for the frustration and anxiety you experienced when parking at the hospital for your appointment and that you were subsequently unable to move your car when you needed to leave the hospital site.

Parking difficulties are disappointing and frustrating for us too as they impact on the effective running of hospital services and, as illustrated by your experience, cause significant problems for patients, families and staff accessing the hospital.

The Hairmyres site is inappropriately used by rail commuters and the impact of this can lead to inconsiderate parking like you have described. While I’m not able to offer any guarantees that the parking situation will be improved in the short term. We are planning to implement parking management arrangements which will ensure that our spaces can only be used by patients, visitors and staff. This is a fairly complex matter and will involve a level of engagement with the public and our staff.

Site staff continue to monitor parking on site and try to discourage inappropriate and inconsiderate parking where this is identified.

Best wishes

Russell
