"Touched with a magic stick"

About: Kilbryde Hospice

(as a relative),

I think about Kilbryde Hosice and all the wonderful staff within every day. My brother, Shamus, was in the hospice in March and the care, love and respect that surrounded him was so tangible. He entered a very sick man and three weeks later walked out, unaided, albeit for a limited time.

The days he spent in Kilbryde Hospice were very special to him and to his family. Healing took place on every level, physical, spiritual and emotional. Shamus said that his time in the hospice was one of the most positive experiences of his life. He really learned of and appreciated the goodness and kindness of people and the support of family and friends. And then there was the food! How he relished every morsel from his pre-breakfast breakfasts to his nighttime snacks! How spoiled was he!

I would like to say a massive thank you to each and every member of staff in Kilbryde Hospice for giving me back my brother for those three wonderful weeks and providing myself and my family with many happy memories.as Shamus said, "every member of staff must have been touched with the magic stick. "

Kilbryde Staff, keep on working your magic!

Dear grateful sister

Thank you for taking the time to post on your brother Shamus's experience of care at Kilbryde Hospice. As Clinical Services Manager of Kilbryde it is very reassuring to read that our staff and volunteer team are providing care "on every level" with "goodness and kindness" being demonstrated. As a relatively new clinical team this very positive feedback of holistic care will be a great boost to the entire team.

Its encouraging to read that your brother entered Kilbryde "very sick" and walked out 3 weeks later to spend precious time at home. Shamus's story will be of great benefit to others who often only see hospice inpatient care for people at the very end of their life. Where possible, our team of nurses, doctors, physio and OT work with people in our care to get them back home and we are delighted Shamus managed this.

Its great to hear that Shamus enjoyed the food including the midnight snacks! I will certainly pass this onto George and the catering team.

Your thanks are very gratefully received. I'm smiling as I read about all our staff being touched by the magic stick. As Clinical Services Manager I think Shamus is correct. We have a fabulous staff and volunteer team in our inpatient unit supported by all the staff and volunteers working behind the scenes and we will do our best to keep working the magic!

Thank you again

Margaret Mary Cowan
