My partner and I visited the City Road hospital yesterday after having been referred by our GP for a second opinion. He is partially sighted and has been diagnosed with myopic degeneration at at 39. He has been being seen by our local hospital, but we had some concerns about that treatment he was receiving. He was seen in Clinic 10 and the clinic was small and calm, which was very nice. The nurse who saw him first had concerns as the pressure in his working eye was high so said she could not put the dilating drops in until one of the doctors had cleared it, he was promptly taken in to see the doctor who checked the pressures with a different machine and authorised the drops. The nurse had such a friendly and kind manner and explained things very well to us. She undertook checks that our local hospital have never done (the eye pressure before administering drops was one of them!) and also his blood pressure and blood sugar. Then when we saw the doctor and consultant, they were both so kind and really listened to my partner. We have agreed ongoing care with the consultant and although the diagnosis is the same and his sight is failing, we feel so much better to be in the consultant's care.
"Excellent care from all"
