"Being allowed to get in or out of bed"

About: St John's Hospital / General Medicine

(as a relative),

My mom was admitted to ward 8 for rehab. While I completely get the point of rehab I don’t agree with the way of the ward.

My mom has sciatica and can’t sit in the one position for too long. One particular carer would not help her back into bed. Thankfully after a chat with the nurse she was allowed back in bed. They were very understanding, unlike this carer. My mom tells me that this carer made people get out of bed when they didn’t want to and wouldn’t let them get back in, talked down to patients and staff. Their attitude towards the patients and the nurses was disgraceful. No respect.

Dear EBak

Thank you very much for sharing your feedback with us regarding your mother's stay in St John's Hospital. I am really sorry to read what has been happening to her as l know that sciatica can be very painful.

If you feel able, I would encourage you to speak directly with the Senior Charge Nurse (SCN) in the ward who I am sure, like me, will be disappointed to hear of your mother's experiences. The will be able to speak directly with the ward staff. Alternatively, the Patient Experience Team can look into this for you and our contact details are:

Telephone: 0131 536 3370

Email: feedback@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk

I have shared your feedback with the management team at St John's and thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback with us.

Kind regards

Jeannette
