"Breastfeeding support every step of the way"

About: Highland Community Services / Health Visitors Highland Community Services / Nursing and Child Health Raigmore Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a service user),

I always knew I wanted to breastfeed however, I very quickly realised that it was a lot of pain and that feeds were lasting an average of an hour, sometimes more!

As the weeks went on this never got any better.

From the very early days of having my daughter, Lana was there for me to provide support with my breastfeeding.

She checked my daughters latch, checked for tongue tie and provided reassuring words which provided me with the extra support and encouragement I needed to continue breastfeeding.

At times the pain reduced me to tears but my daughter had excellent weight gain so I didn't want to give up. Lana continued to provide support and I am so grateful for her and Lynne for coming out to my home numerous times and also for the feeding support group at the Perrins Centre in Alness run by Lana and Lynne.

Lana referred me to Raigmore hospital where they picked up a posterior tongue tie. This was hard to diagnose and had gone missed by numerous professionals but by having Lana's support every step of the way we were able to get my daughters tongue tie snipped at 16 weeks and within a week, feeding was pain free and reduced to shorter feeds rather than the hour average we were used to.

I love feeding now and am so glad I had the support from Lana that I very much needed to ensure I didn't give up.

My daughter is nearly 8 months now and we still enjoy breastfeeding and love going to the feeding support group in Alness.

I know many other mums who speak very highly of the support received from Lana.

I know that our breastfeeding journey would not have lasted long if it wasn't for the support I received.

Dear Grateful Mummy

First of all I would like to offer you our belated congratulations on the birth of your little girl. I am pleased to hear that by receiving support from the teams you were able to persist with your goal and achieve what you had always wished for.

Thank you for your very kind words about Lynne and Lana. It is always lovely to read compliments from patients. I am sure they will be delighted to hear that they have been able to support you and your daughter throughout this challenging time.

Please be assured that I have passed your message to the girls and their line managers.

With best wishes

Sylvia
