"My 4 month old left waiting for 5 - 6 hours"

About: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital / Accident and emergency

We arrived at the A&E department at 1am after my 4 month old had experienced a burn to her hand. We did not receive any care until 6 am and then left at 7 am. We were left in a waiting room for the duration of this time and even received the treatment in the waiting room. The doctors and nurses were unprofessional and unhelpful, the communication was terrible. We wanted to leave and take our baby to another hospital (our local - as we were away whilst visiting Basingstoke) and we were told if we leave they will report us to social services - totally unacceptable considering we were taking her to another hospital for better treatment and treatment that would of been much faster. Truly disappointed, when we had a check up the next day at our local hospital my baby was prioritised, treated and taken care of within the space of an hour and it was busy! I always thought babies, especially at 4 months of age and with a severe burn would of been prioritised but we kept being told that they had other patients to deal with in the order they arrived...

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. I am so very sorry to hear about your experience, this is not the high standard of care that we aim to provide.
