"Out-patient experience at Solihull and Birmingham Heartlands Hospitals"

About: Heartlands Hospital / General surgery Solihull Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I went to see my GP earlier this year, complaining about irregular bowel habits and general discomfort in the nether regions. I received an appointment for a preliminary examination a little over a month later, a Saturday, at B'ham Heartlands for a pre-assessment colonoscopy.

Monica did an excellent job briefing me what was going to happen. The appointment for the colonoscopy itself was for a few weeks after, another Saturday. Everyone was splendid, particularly the nursing staff.

Between arriving and going home, the whole thing took about 2.5 hours. Altogether very efficient.

Mine's a small story, but given the criticism sometimes levelled at the NHS, I just wanted to give this feedback.
