"discarded like a burnt out cigarette end"

About: Fairfield General Hospital

What I liked

Speed my appointment came through (for what use it was)

What could be improved

More care and at least a follow up would have been nice

Anything else?

I was left feeling I had wasted the rheumatoligst time! She asked me several questions, sent me for an xray on my hands and chest (no idea why as I hadn't complained of chest pain or severe hand pain but pain in my knees, shoulders, back, hips and other parts of my body. She did a very quick examination then told me I have fibromyalgia and didn't want to see me again. She wrote to my gp (I got a copy) which stated she was pleased to say there is nothing sinister wrong with me and that should reassure me. Well no, it didn't! I always have a very high white blood count which has never lowered with anti biotics. I was offered no scans (whereas having joined UKFibromyalgia site have discovered that everyone there had scans before a confirmation of fibromyalgia. They are all also still under the care of the Rheumy!!! The one I saw at Fairfield wasn't interested and now my doctor says he can only increase the dose of Lryica on her say so but she has discharged me.

As far as I'm concerned that rheumy left me feeling I had wasted her time and dismissed me with a simple letter to my gp.

Thankfully my psychiatrist is going to write to my GP on my behalf asking him to increase my dose of Lyrica as my GP isn't sure of the doses. Not a lot he can do if the rheumy isn't interested.

I am now having to go through the process of asking my GP to refer me to a hospital that cares and will continue to help deal with Fibromyalgia (if that is what I've got) as that rheumy couldn't give a damn and my GP doesn't know much about the condition.

Left very disappointed and stressed since October and think I'd have taken my own life due to the intense pain and basically being discarded like a burnt out cigarette butt had it not been for being under the care of a pyschiatrist.
