"I had to send my visitors to the shops"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Maternity care (Wards 47, 48 & 50)

(as the patient),

I was admitted to post natal word post c-section. I myself am a staff nurse therefore I know the strain the nhs is under. However I felt I was avoided because I was a nurse.

At visiting time I stood up and bled through my nightwear. I asked my mum to ask the hca for maternity pads and a gown. The hca came back with a gown and 1 pad and said that’s all the pads that were left in the ward. So was I just to bleed everywhere? I had to send my visitors to the shops for pads.

And do you believe there is girls having miscarriages in the ward would be told there no pads. I was shocked and disgraced by this person’s attitude.

Dear Aoilog

Congratulations on the birth of your baby.

I am sorry that you had concerns regarding your postnatal case and specifically that you feel staff avoided you due to being a nurse. I would wish to reassure you that this would not be our philosophy and intended. If you wish to contact me directly I can discuss more fully and feed back any concerns directly to staff. My contact details are Victoria.mazzoni@ggc.scot.nhs.uk.

I was concerned to find that you were not given a sufficient supply of sanitary products when you required them urgently. There is a supply retained on the ward for women who have not brought in their own or have run out although women are encouraged to bring in their own preferred brand and supply their own nappies and sanitary products.

I hope that you have now recovered from your birth and enjoying like with your newborn baby,

Best wishes

Vikki
