What I liked

My daughter was admitted as an emergency section and I have to say the there was very little 'good nursing care', more 'bad nursing'.

My grandson was given anti biotics when apparantly he didn't need them as didn't have an infection. He is now going to have to have a hearing test to make sure his hearing has not been affected. He had to go on photo therapy for severe jaundice and it took my daughters mother in law to bring to our attention that the machine should be on 'high', it had been on low for 3 days! The mid-wifes comment was 'sorry about that'. My grandson had been shivering in his cot for his time under the photo therapy and on the last day, the doctor was asked to come in by a very nice (new to my daughter) mid wife. The doctor commented on how a newborn should not be in that room and immediately a heater was brought in. This made a big difference.

As soon as the phototherapy was put on high, his condition improved.

My daughter and grandson were traumatised and distressed for most of the time they had to stay in hospital.

On discharge, no one came in to my daughter to say she could leave. She sat in a room on her own waiting and when she went to enquire, was told ' have you not gone yet'? Absolutely, disgusting!

What could be improved

Practically everything in this instance!

Certainly very little empathy and also lack of professionalism. A midwife and paedatrician actually had a difference of opinion in front of my daughter.
