"Maggie mum"

About: Kilbryde Hospice

(as a relative),

My mum was an inpatient at Kilbryde Hospice for 3 weeks after being diagnosed with cancer in January of this year. Unfortunately things deteriorated over a very short space of time and we found ourselves in a situation where hospice care was the best option for end of life care. From the moment we were first put in touch with Kilbryde Hospice, every member of staff we spoke to was helpful and caring.

They took amazing care of my mum and treated her with dignity and respect at all times. They were also very welcoming to us as a family and were very accommodating. We were able to stay overnight in the room with mum in her final weeks.

We cannot thank all of the hospice staff enough for the care they gave mum and will be fundraising in the near future to donate to this wonderful hospice.

Dear Maggie's daughter

Thank you for posting your story on care Opinion. I'm Clinical Services Manager at Kilbryde Hospice and it's lovely to hear that you felt the care we offered your Mum was the best option for her at the end of her life. I appreciate that you didn't have much time to come to terms with the severity and speed of her illness; this must have been a very difficult time for you.

You have told us that your Mum was treated with dignity and respect and ultimately that is what we wish for all patients and families in our care. As manager of the nursing staff this is very reassuring to me. As you are aware we are still a new team working together to provide specialist palliative care to all the patients and families in our care - your very positive feedback will be a great boost to the entire team.

I will take time to feed this back to all members of the team including nursing, medical and the extended clinical team as well as all the staff and volunteers who work in the background.

Best of luck with your fundraising activities.

Take care of yourself and the rest of the family

Kind regards

Margaret Mary Cowan

Clinical Services Manager
