"Visit to minor injuries and ED"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Accident & emergency Stirling Care Village / Minor injuries unit

(as a service user),

I attended minor injuries with a bad cut to my hand as it is classed as a minor injury. I arrived at approximately 18.35 and I sat until 20.45 despite my hand still bleeding and dripping out the tea towel I had round it and swabs that the receptionist gave me. I went for an xray and was told there was no glass so I needed stitches however there was no time to get it anesthetized and stitched as they were closing. Fresh swabs and bandages were put on and I was given pain relief.

I then went to FVRH luckily I had someone to give me a lift as I couldn't drive. When I got to FVRH at 21.30 I went to desk and told them I had had an xray then I was triaged and sat back in the waiting room obviously to be put to the end of the queue despite the over 2 hour wait in minor injuries. I believe that this is so that I didn't breach the 4 hour target if the wait in minor injuries is not counted. I feel this is rather unfair as I did as the system said and I feel I was penalised as if I had gone straight to FVRH I believe I would have been home several hours earlier. I am not complaining about the staff but I feel the pathway could be improved. If minor injuries had said at the start they were busy and I wouldn't be seen then I would have been happy to go at the start to FVRH ad would have been home well before 12.45am which when I got home.

Dear Bermuda,

I am sorry to hear about your recent experience. This is not the care we aim to provide.

We do review the Minor injury unit and the service we can provide, we will use the story you have provided to consider how we can make the service provided over Forth valley better.

I hope your wound is healing well.

Dear Bermuda,

Thank you for taking time to give feedback on your recent visit to MIU and ED.

I have shared you feedback with the staff working in the unit so we can review our current procedures that we have in place when the service requirements exceed our operational hours.
