The maternity unity was second to none when my daughter was induced at the weekend. ALL the staff were excellent, we were very very impressed by their care and expertise. My only critisism of the hospital was seeing staff in uniforms smoking in the smking shelter outside the maternity unit. We are trying to encourage stopping smoking, especially for pregnant mums. It is wholly unacceptable that staff are allowed to smoke on hospital premesis, including carparks. Staff stinking of cigarette smoke must be awful for patients and gives the wrong message to all. I feel very very strongly about this and hope none of the staff we saw were anywhere near our daughter and newborn grandchild. It is very worrying that staff who work in the NHS still think it is ok to smoke. Staff smoking on duty on hospital premesis must stop.
