"HYPEREMESIS - MORE EDUCATION NEEDED"

About: Whipps Cross University Hospital

I came to A&E a week ago with abdominal pain, Severe vomiting and horrendous nausea, Im 7 weeks pregnant. After an over 11 hour wait in A&E i was finally taken to AAU, Cannot fault this ward an staff an my comlaint is not about them as was treated marvellously! I was then transfered to ROWAN WARD an this is where my complaint begins. Im in alot of HYPEREMESIS GRAVIDARUM groups and this was my 2nd hospital admittance for same condition as i knew the difference between morning sickness and Hyperemesis (was previously preg with morning sickness before a miscarriage) but this had me bed ridden, vomiting, such horrendous nausea i couldnt work, eat, drink and sleep! I was put on 5 litres of IV fluids as well as 3 diff anti sickness drugs 3 times a day so not what u would need for general morning sickness however the gyny dr continued to compare my condition to basic morning sickness over an over and was so completely uneducated on hyperemesis that she actually even said "hyperemesis is basically morning sickness" (anyone with hyperemesis KNOWS how offensive that statement is!) The dr repeatedly undermined and demeaned me each time i said no its not morning sickness with a silly grin constantly on her face very patronizingly and refused to accept that days before her collegue had stated im being treated for stage 1 & 2 hyperemesis..to her it was nothing more than SIMPLE MORNING SICKNESS..because as she said "ive been preg i know morning sickness"..I alerted the ward sister as well as her colleague on ward round with her that i refuse to see her again an will wait for another dr whilst the original doctor stood in reception very loudly stating "HOSPITAL IS NOT THE PLACE FOR HER, HOSPITAL IS NOT THE PLACE", Even nurses returned to me shocked of this comment as it was so unprofessional an i felt influenced the care i would be given as HA and nurses listened to this. My refusal to see her again was passed on...she then tried to come another TWO TIMES despite my decision (ignored my rights) and would not leave and tried to draw curtains around us as i told her please go i will not see you! Very very scary meaning i had to jump out of bed to try an leave myself as she ignored me...i jumped out of bed an quickly took to the reception area where she was now trying with her hand up to block me from going away from her saying no continually! Very very odd situation..its now been reported as nurses urged me to also and looked into an honestly scared the hell out of me that she seems to feel she is exempt from rules. Its very worrying that hyperemesis was actually the biggest cause of maternal death some years back and still reports as short as a few months ago that proved many patients only receive the correct treatment after being severly malnourished and dangerously ill as drs have no real understanding between hyperemesis not being morning sickness as this dr did not as well as lacking a huge amount of empathy.im now scared to return if i need to!
