I attended the Macular degeneration clinic today with 95 year old mum. Her appointment was at 2.00 p.m. we arrived home at 6.00 p.m..
The first part of her appointment is a vision test which takes 5-10 minutes. The 2nd part of her appointment is an eye scan which takes around 10-15 minutes (there is only 1 eye scanner which is ridiculous). The 3rd part is the doctor making the decision as to whether an eye injection is required. If one is needed you have another long wait. Eventually the injection was given and we were able to make our way home. We are an ageing population and the waiting times are going to get longer so action is needed so this problem doesn't get any worse. Old people don't deserve this. I personally live 50 miles away so my day is considerably longer. I have a sister who lives closer but she has a disabled hubby who she can't leave for more than an hour. The staff are marvellous and I feel sorry for them having to apologise all the time for keeping one waiting. It must be very stressful for them
