"A lot of people there should not be working in..."

I have had suicidal thoughts for a long time. I'm a 37 year old man and I've made two very serious suicide attempts which were close to being successful. I was told by so called caring people there after I had attempted suicide that if I ever feel like that again I should contact them for "help". When you feel like that it is VERY hard to reach out for help. I felt like I was very close to committing suicide and made the hard decision to tell them and what did they say? "Well you can't have been thinking about it that seriously or you would have just done it and not come to us". Absolutely disgusting and unbelievable behaviour from people that are supposed to care.

I am very sorry to hear about your negative experience when seeking help from Mental Health services. You were clearly very distressed and in need of care at that time. Whilst you have not indicated where you had such an awful experience I would want to offer you sincere apologies on behalf of the NHS and all those who strive to deliver the best service they can to patients suffering with Mental Ill health within NHS services. I would strongly advise that you seek help from your General Practitioner if you continue to feel suicidal or unwell mentally at the moment.

They can direct you to a range of services in your locality who can offer you the support you may need.

If you wish to discuss this further please contact Patient Experience on 01529 222266. Patrick McKeaveney-Davies Service Manager Acute In-Patient
