"No compassion for worried parents!"

About: Forest Hall Health Centre

Tried to contact the surgery from 8 o’clock this morning for an emergency appointment automated service couldn’t get to speak to anyone. Took my Poorly daughter to rake lane waiting time was 6 hours called 111 who said go to your doctors and explain. Visited the surgery by a rude receptionist who told me she can’t be seen until tomorrow as she is standing Poorly next to me covered in spots. Asking me questions whilst a que of people behind me and then with hand motions asked how she is Poorly. Went away and spoke to a doctor who said come back later but expect a wait. More or less saying you should of stayed in rake lane for 6 hours. the service her attitude and the full situation is absolutely disgusting. Luckily 111 can help get her to see a doctor! I would not recommend this doctors surgery to anyone! No compassion or sympathy at all!!!

I’m sorry you’ve had this experience. Without patient details we can’t look into it but if you were able to contact the practice manager at the surgery they would be happy to look into it.

It may help to clarify local provision for you an others reading this

Urgent Care Centres in North Tyneside provide urgent care for minor ailments. The idea is ‘talk before you walk’ - phoning 111 should mean they book you appointment thus reducing the need to wait. Also 111 have the ability to book directly into our appointments when appropriate and needed so I’m a little supervised they didn’t suggest this for you as we had 111 slots available on the date for them.

When all our routine slots and urgent ailments slots are filled we have an on call doctor who will manage demand by triaging patients and managing them either by phone, directing them to appropriate service or arranging a GP appointment. This doctor is on call covering all emergency needs for around 11,000 patients (which is common practice in surgeries). In covering life threatening emergencies it means at times patients come for their appointment and have to wait as the on call doctor has been called away to an emergency. Following complaints about having to wait to see the on call doctor its common practice to inform patients there may be a wait.

I hope this helps clarify the appointment systems locally

Dr Lunn
