"Efficient, friendly and reassuring - excellent..."

About: Luton & Dunstable Hospital

What I liked

Staff were attentive to the patient needs and even though there was quite a wait, checked regularly to ensure all was well, answered concerns and questions with patiience and were overall friendly and courteous. I attended with my daughter whose baby was only eight weeks old at approx ten in the evening and came away feeling reassured and satisfied with the treatment . We were even given free parking when we left at 2.30 am!

The staff at the hospital work extremely hard under pressure and should be congratulated - whatever they are beiing paid, it isn't enough!

What could be improved

Maybe have a Nurse Practitioner to take some of the load from the doctors who were extrenely busy, attending the more poorly patients. One or two of the children were obviously going to be in the hospital all night and were getting upset with the noise and bustle in the assessment ward - I realise it is only a small thing but maybe have an 'interim area' whilst they are waiting for a bed which is a little quieter and less stressful for them.

To support the staff, parents attending with their children should be asked to stay with their children (I witnessed parents going off to sleep in the parents coffee lounge and disappearing for an hour at a time to smoke (right outside the entrance to the surgical block, no less!!) etc. Everyone needs a 'comfort break', but that's ridiculous and staff under this amount of pressure cannot comfort children who simply want their mum or dad.

Anything else?

i was pleasantly surprised at how clean and tidy everywhere was.

Thank for you taking the time to leave your feedback. It’s good to hear you came away feeling both reassured and satisfied with the treatment your daughter received. Our staff do indeed work extremely hard and so it is always nice to hear when this translates to a positive experience for patients and their families. Your comments have been passed to the department so they can read your kind words for themselves.

We also appreciate your suggestions for what could be improved – these too have been passed onto the relevant department. Thank you again for taking the time to leave your comments.
