I visited the breast care Unit today for my appointment at 1:15 pm but the staff did not return to the department until 1:30 pm so I was concerned from the start of the appointment about attitude.
Being called in it was instantly apparent that the department was inadequate for purpose.
Rooms were far to small for the bed, equipment, patient and (in one instance) three members of staff again low standard provision.
At one stage, the wrong equipment was going to be used until a second member of staff present questioned it.
so, unawareness on a member of staff's part which was fortunately rectified by a second member of staff present in a confined space.
each part of the process involved getting undressed, having the procedure, getting dressed and going back to the waiting are to be called for the next stage.
This took place at least 5 times causing an extended length of time for the patient.
whilst the layout of the department is difficult to rectify, there needs to be a review of working practices to give a more streamlined appointment for the patient. all things considered, I met with a group of pleasant individuals working in an unsatisfactory environment and patients being in extended appointments due to poor department lay out.
Now, I have to go back for my results - hopefully staff will be back from lunch in time for the first appointment and accommodation will be fit for purpose.
