Last year, I started having various tests, and procedures in a build up to having abdominal surgery, which was done last Tuesday.
From my first ever appointment to my leaving the hospital following my op, I have been treated kindly, respectfully and encouraged to have an opinion with regard to my care.
On the day of my surgery, I was scheduled to go to theatre first on the list, this wasn't to be as they needed a bed for me on NEU.
The nurse who cared for me on W27, kept me informed every time there was communication between herself and Wd 16.
I knew that if there wasn't a bed, then surgery would be delayed.
She told me that they wouldn't stop trying until the very last minute to prevent my surgery from being put back. NEU is on Wd 16, it is the Nurse Enhanced Unit, and when someone who has had surgery and needs extra care afterwards, are sent to NEU. There are 4 male and 4 female beds in this unit, once you are well enough to move from here, you are moved to a normal bed, so these beds are at a premium.
I was so well cared for, I couldn't say anything negative about my whole experience.
From the anaesthetists, all the theatre staff, and my surgeon, I have been treated so well.
On the ward, the nurses, HCA's, OT & physio were brilliant. There have are so many people who have been instrumental in making my surgery go well, and have taken my welfare a priority. I am grateful for all treatment I have received. My grateful Thanks to all involved :)
"And at last, surgery."
