"One particular doctor. Eye department. You are..."

About: Sandwell General Hospital / Ophthalmology

Today it was my pleasure to meet one particular doctor for the first time. I had my 8.30 eye test and was immediately called into the interview room with her. We chatted about my tests and she checked my eye pressure. I told her I was getting very concerned about the distortion with my vision. I have an epi retinol membrane.

She said I could be ready now for surgery to deal with the condition and told me to get in touch in 6 weeks if I do not have an appointment sorted for then. I explained about the nightmare there is always trying to get the appointment in the allotted time the doctor suggests. Please note Sandwell, medical appointments need to be addressed as very few who answer the phone seem to care about the patient. So many times I have been given appointments much later than I was advised to see the Consultant again. Eyes are very precious. Anyway, this doctor is very professional. Very charismatic and a pleasure to be her patient. She is a credit to her profession. Thank you to this doctor.

Dear Christine,

I'm delighted to hear you had such a good experience with a doctor you saw - although I am sorry to hear about your appointment issues. We aim to arrange appointments at the most convenient time for the patient, however sometimes this is not possible due to availability.

I have passed on your feedback to the appointments team, who will look into the matter. I will also pass on your good wishes to the Ophthalmology team. However, should you recall the name of the doctor who saw you, please let do let our communications team know at swbh.comms@nhs.net as we would love to make sure she is made aware personally. Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your treatment. Kind regards, Toby Lewis, Chief Executive.
