My wife gave birth to our first son in Wishaw maternity back in March this year. The midwife team that delivered him were outstanding and made us both feel at ease during the experience and comfortable that we were in the safe hands of professionals.
Once out on the ward we had a bit of a different experience. It was clear the ward was under resourced and staff were stretched very thin. It seemed near impossible for them to manage all of the tasks required of them. This led to many staff promising to come back after they had finished something else, but rarely did. To be clear this story is not a dig at the hard working maternity unit in Wishaw, quite the opposite, I have absolute admiration for them and don't know how they continue to function in this stressful environment. It is glaringly apparent that being under resourced is a product of budget cuts.
I would like to thank all of the team that supported myself and my wife. In particular Louise who delivered my son, apologies I can't remember the names of the other midwifes. (Very stressful time and most of it is a blur)
I would also like to thank Irene who provide excellent support for my wife on breast feeding and even arranged a breast pump for us to borrow. Irene truly went above and beyond to support my wife while she was struggling and upset.
If it is possible to give Louise and Irene or any of the other midwifes a performance or recognition bonus or award I would really be appreciative of this to recognise the excellent work that they do.
"Truly went above and beyond to support my wife"
