I had day surgery recently. I was nervous about the general anaesthetic only as I had not had a straight forward recovery from a general anaesthetic a number of year ago. I was reassured by everyone particularly the anaesthetist who explained that she would be giving me different drugs. I woke up in recovery and was amazed to hear that I had been there for 20 minutes. I had no ill effect from the anaesthetic.
On returning to the ward I was given tea and offered a sandwich, I refused the sandwich as I felt slightly nauseous but had 2 cups of tea and a biscuit. I was asked to sit up which I did but felt I would be better lying down for a bit longer. I was allowed to do this. My only slight issue was a feeling that I was being rushed to progress to sit up when I didn't feel ready and to getting up and dressed. I managed however and the whole experience was almost as good as it could be.
"Very reassured, but a little rushed at New Victoria Hospital"
