"A recent hospital admission with Pneumonia"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Emergency Department Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Respiratory medicine

(as a relative),

My husband was admitted to the Royal Cornwall NHS hospital with pneumonia early in March this year and was discharged middle of March.

This was a very worrying time for me and our family. My husband has multiple sclerosis and is immobile but has managed his illness well over the years with the help of his GP, Specialist nurse, carers and family.

This meant we all worried about my husband needing to be admitted and wanted to be kept updated about his diagnosis and treatment.

Me and the family are grateful to the staff in the emergency department and Roskear ward who cared for him during his time in hospital. My husband in particular wanted to thank the deputy sister of Roskear ward Andrea, HCA Megan,
Mike an agency nurse, Hannah and the speech and language team Naomi and Edward who helped him to get back to his normal diet and fluids before he went home.

Dear 'DozyRozy',

My name is Jane and I am the Matron for Emergency Care. Thank you for your comments regarding your experience and your husbands care and treatment earlier in the year.

It is certainly a worrying time for lots of patients and their families when they are admitted to hospital, particularly if they are also suffering from a long term illness like multiple sclerosis. I am pleased that we were able to allay some of your fears and keep you updated with what was happening to him and the treatment he was receiving.

Communication is vitally important to both patients and their relatives and I hope that we were able to provide some reassurance for potential future admissions.

Kind Regards

Jane
