"A lesson to be learnt"

About: Russells Hall Hospital / Accident and emergency

I was brought into ED on Tuesday morning and within 10 minutes had been assessed as triggering sepsis. As a result, within 10 minutes I had had blood tests taken and been started on treatment. The department was extremely busy but until the early staff left, the care from both the nurses and doctors was incredible and genuinely could not have been faulted. Sadly, in the evening things weren't quite so brilliant. Doctors came to see me without introducing themselves and when it was decided that I needed to be admitted, I was taken off all my monitoring and moved from my cubicle into a holding bay whilst waiting for a bed. After three and a half hours a bed was found for me and I was admitted to AMU.

Thank you taking the time to share your experience about your recent attendance to the Emergency Department at Russells Hall Hospital.

It is great to hear you describe the staff in the Emergency Department as incredible and to hear they treated you so well. We have passed on your kind words of appreciation which will surely enhance staff morale.

We are disappointed to learn you raise concern about staff during the evenings. We can assure that the comments made have been brought to the attention of the senior team responsible and have asked that they take appropriate improvement action to ensure that high standards are consistently achieved and staff are reminded to always introduce themselves to patients.

If you would like to discuss this is more detail, we encourage you to contact our Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) on Freephone 0800 073 0510 or email dgft.pals@nhs.net who will be happy to support you further.
