last week, my doctor decided I needed to go to A&E for assessment. I arrived at approx 10.20 and sat and waited for someone to see me . It was very busy. But eventually I went in . The doctor thought I might have the flu . I sat in a cubicle and was asked to wear a mask. I was the given an ecg. Shortly after that I was taken to the unit behind in an isolated room. I asked for a blanket whilst in A&E which took 35 mins to arrive. After going into the unit I was told there might be another problem and I was not allowed to go home. I went in to this unit at approx 1-1.30, but had been in A&E since 10.20
Ish. I had obs done every 4 hours and had a heart scan . I was very very sleepy . BUT I never got offered a drink . I got the distinct impression that I was wasting a bed , it seemed so did all your staff as they were quite stand off ish. I felt very uncomfortable. In the morning I was finally offered a drink , which finally came at 7.30 .almost 12 hours after arriving. The nurses in the morning were nice but I was appalled that unless they were speaking to you they spent all their time speaking in their own language , very disrespectful. The doctor came about 10 and said I could go home, and I just had to wait for my discharge letter . 4 hours later, after everyone could see I was beginning to get annoyed the sister came over and said I could go home and the discharge letter would be sent to my home. What a waste of A) a bed. B) my time especially as I was still feeling very unwell and wanted to sleep. C) respect , as your staff made me feel very uncomfortable.
I have always gone to Stoke Mandaville hospital and now I know why.
They treat you with respect and they communicate with each other in English. And even if your diagnosis is not life threatening you are spoken to with respect. Also they constantly offer tea or coffee. I would not recommend you to anyone and if I was taken to you in an emergency I would rather die. A total lack of respect. I did not ask to be sent to hospital.
"no respect"
