"Lipoma removed from my back"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Ambulatory Care

(as the patient),

I was getting some discomfort from a lump in my lower back . Went to my GP a few weeks ago, who said it was a Lipoma and she would refer me to Forth Valley Hospital. I got a phone call one morning to say there was a cancellation and asking if I could attend that afternoon .

Was called into ambulatory care at my appointment time and David and Laurianne put me at ease and told me the lump would be removed then and there! Was a bit shocked as expected just to have it looked at!

David gave me an injection and surgery was performed to remove the lump . Within 40 minutes two lumps had been removed and I was on my way back home .

I was given a leaflet detailing after care and told to take paracetamol if in discomfort.

Well done folks excellent service .

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave such detailed feedback.

By reading your account others may be less anxious about forthcoming appointments.

Lauriann and I try our best to provide a relaxing environment and are delighted you found this to be so.

Sorry about the confusion about the reason for your appointment, a one stop clinic saves everyone time, but it would have been better if we had made this clear at the first invitation to attend.

Hopefully your wounds are healing well and you didn't find it too sore when the anaesthetic wore off.

Thanks again

David

Update posted by Adam59 (the patient)

David thank you both last week. Wound has healed well. Only discomfort is transition bed to standing and standing from a seated position. Am managing to drive with a cushion to ensure lower back is clear from seat back. Should have asked about stitches are they dissolvable? Adam59

Thanks Adam59, That's good to hear.

The sutures are of an absorbable material which loses half it's strength within 7-10 days, down to 20% within 2 weeks and should be completely dissolved within 90 days or so.

Hope your recuperative period is short.

David
