"Recent procedure"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Urology (Ward 11c)

(as the patient),

I suffered a recurrence of a renal abscess and was admitted for three days while I had a procedure. The accommodation, food and nursing staff were good but the signage was unclear throughout the hospital.

Dear JAYJAYAR

Thank you for your post on Care Opinion and for your comments regarding the nursing staff, accommodation and food which I will share with the staff.

Please be assured that I will raise your concerns about the signage with my colleagues in Facilities.

I wish you a speedy recovery.

Kind Regards

Nicole

Dear JAYJAYAR

I am pleased that you thought the food, accommodation and clinical care was good during your recent inpatient stay.

If you are able to provide any additional information about the signage it would be very much appreciated, and would allow me to look into this.

My email address is mandy.machell@ggc.scot.nhs.uk

I hope your recovery is progressing well.

Regards

Mandy Machell, Deputy Site Facilities Manager - Business

Update posted by JAYJAYAR (the patient)

First of all I must advise that when I arrived at QEUH I was in pain and had just come from Victoria Infirmary where I had sat for about 3 hours, I am also 82 years of age.

When I arrived I did notice Reception and asked for directions. The receptionist pointed to an area some distance away, unfortunately we finished up in a large cafeteria and got further instructions from other staff

My observations are that direction boards are not at all clear, in most case refer to department as ADU ACD or similar. While in the hospital for 3 days I was transported to many departments and discussed the lack of understandable sign with staff members. Without exception every one agreed that the signs were very poor.

I would suggest, less abbreviated department names and perhaps colour coded departments.

As you will know, we in Eastwood District now have a new Health Centre which has colour coded Dept Names which are much easier to understand.

Thank you for your interest.
