"waiting for an operation"

About: Watford General Hospital

Anything else?

My relative was admitted for an emergency hernia repair to Watford General last week. Still waiting. They've been prepared for theatre and then had it put back. Now told it will be "in the week". They are in a limbo between being "elective" and "not being emergency enough". Very frustrating. Please sort this out - either do it quickly or give certainty about when it is going to be done. I feel this is terrible expectation management; and also feel it's a terrible waste of NHS resources while they lie in a hospital bed.

Thankyou for offering feedback of your relative's experience to date of writing.

The importance of a wholly positive patient experience is one of the Trust’s key objectives, and the issue of communication between staff and patients is something we’re working hard to improve.

Without full details of your relative's specific case it is difficult to comment. However, we can assure you that if you would like to contact us directly through the Trust’s Quality Assurance department at info@whht.nhs.uk, we would welcome the opportunity to thoroughly investigate these concerns on your behalf, and provide you with a detailed response to each of the issues raised.
