"Discharged only to return hours later"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Accident & emergency

(as a relative),

Attended emergency department with my frail elderly relative, waited 2 hours to see a doctor only to be discharged with basic information and told to restart a drug which NHS24 told me to withhold.

Only to return 3 hours later because my father's condition had not improved but deteriorated. We were triaged quickly but sat 4 hours to be seen by a doctor . The treatment my father received should have implemented on our first visit. My father was exhausted - no offer of refreshments, nothing. Staff just ignored us - one was very patronising.

It was an awful experience, one I hope never to repeat.

Dear Mollywolly,

I am very sorry to hear about your fathers recent experience in ED. It is not how we aim to treat patients, hearing that makes me quite disappointed.

We do strive to provide patient centred care within a reasonable time frame, I am sorry to hear that we did not achieve this on this occasion.

In order for me to look into this further I would need your fathers details and permission to do so.

My email is Glynis.fotheringham@nhs.net If you would like me to look into this.
