Admitted as emergency to A&E with AF....an infection, after spending majority if day in A&E was sent to ward 31.. Did not want to stay in that hospital but ward 31 seemed fine... following day was being moved to 51 -53 nurse said, mmmmm it’s grim up there.. thought she was joking... she wasn’t. They had no dressings for my chest wound that had burst and weeping.. I went to toilet once, it stank of urine. That evening had another AF attack.. nursing staff ignored my requests for help.. they were calling me by someone else’s name.. each nurse that came, saw my chest dressing and said, ooo what have you done there.. this is all 7 days after my CABG and Aortic Valve replacement surgery..I said if they didn’t give me the treatment I needed to bring my heart rate back to normaI (160 bpm at that point) would call my family.. I did. 2 sons, brother and partners came.. 10pm.. only then did a doctor come to treat the AF... I said I didn’t feel safe and wanted to go home. he then took me to the cardiac ward... which is where I should have been in the first place...the rest of my care was very good....This experience has left me with flashbacks of my experience and terrified of ever going to that hospital again... Now my Local A & E Department at Northallerton is closing I am suffering with really bad anxiety...I have the heart problem and feel very unsafe with the prospect of being taken to Darlington Memorial in the future...some, of the staff are very matter of fact and uncaring.. not all I have to say.... we are human beings in a very vulnerable position when Ill and very frightened....... . Also, when I had to go for CT scan, I was in a lot of pain because of the operation and there was no help whatsoever to get on or off the machine... it was like being on a conveyor belt and the girl told me what to to in a very stern manner.......had to lie flat in my back and stretch arms above head.... no help to do it gently or attention to heart opp wound...... felt very alone....
