"This superb service allowed us to stay in our home"

About: Strathcarron Hospice / Day Care Service

(as a relative),

My wife was diagnosed with incurable cancer in 2016. This had spread from her breast to a number of sites in her body.

In September 2018 it reached her brain and her health deteriorated. The Strathcarron hospice team came to visit and put us on their books. They were ready to help whenever required and were very kind. It was my wife's wishes to remain at home till the end.

Strathcarron have a team of nurses and carers who are prepared to visit the home of terminally ill people and care and nurse them in their own bed.

These wonderful people visited every day to wash, massage, change and make my wife comfortable during the last three weeks of her life. The care she received was first class.

This is a superb service and allowed us to stay in our own home with my wife while she still had the care to remain comfortable and dignified at the end of life.

hello

Thank you very much for posting your story about your experience of Strathcarron Hospice and in particular, the Hospice @ Home Team. We would also like to give our condolences to you and your family even though it is some months since she died.

The principle purpose of the Hospice @ Home service is to enable people to die at home if this is their wish and that of their families. It is of course very affirming for us to hear that with the support of the Team, you were able to achieve her wish and that being able to stay at home with your wife made such a difference to you.

Thank you for your very positive comments about the care received and how this has helped you remember her having a comfortable and dignified end of life.

We will share your comments with the Hospice @ Home Team.

Regards

Lesley
