"Staff need more training in regards to mental..."

About: Sheffield City GP HC (Wic)

I went to the walk in centre two days ago having suffered from intense anxiety for a number of days. Having waited patiently for my turn to see a doctor/practice nurse, I was was greeted by a nurse, who did not greet me with a smile. She asked me my reasons for attending the walk in centre and I explained that I had been feeling an increased sense of anxiety. She rolled her eyes and made me feel like I was wasting her time. She told me I needed to be seen by my GP and sat huffing at her computer which wasn’t working. This did not do anything to ease my anxiety and I feel that with increased training, she may greet the next patient who comes in with a mental health condition a little differently. I am aware that she is very busy and may have been suffering from stress herself, however as a registered health professional, in particular a nurse, she has to adhere to the Nursing and Midwifey code of conduct- which states in section 2) 2.6 that nurses should ‘recognise when people are anxious or in distress and respond compassionately and politely’.

Thank You for taking the time to leave feedback regarding your visit to the Sheffield NHS Walk in Centre. I am sorry with the experience that you received. Could you possibly contact me at carlywoodward@onemedicare.co.uk with more information so that i can investigate this further.

Thank You
