I visited the minor injuries unit on Sunday morning at 9am with an ankle injury. My husband dropped me off in the drop off area only for me to find the doors to the building you walk through weren’t open at the weekend so he came back around and dropped me off in the car park which was closer to the MIU entrance.
When we went in I was told by two nurses to take a seat which I went to do in the seating area, to then be told in a curt voice, they meant over by them (there was no one else in there). On sitting down I explained what had happened and said whilst I thought I hadn’t broke it, I couldn’t weight bear on it so would like to just get it checked and have something to help me walk such as crutches. I then got a very rude explanation of how they wouldn’t suggest using crutches on the stairs anyway and I needed to rest it and not walk around (I didn’t imply I was going to use the crutches on the stairs or go on a hike to be fair... I’m not an idiot).
They couldn’t do an X-ray as it was a Sunday and not open (which I didn’t find any previous reference to before we travelled there) and the whole demeanour of the two nurses made me feel I was a nusance, in their way, and wasting their time (my ankle was like a balloon).
They didn’t treat me with anything bearing respect and spoke to me like I was an irritating child. I appreciate they might see a lot of similar injuries but their tone really wasn’t kind or caring, they were like rude school mistresses.
I need to go back for an X-ray but won’t be returning there. My advice would be if you want to be seen quickly then this is probably a good place to go but don’t expect to be treated with anything other than rudeness if the same two nurses are on.
"Speedy but rude"
