My 5 month old had become unwell and was lethargic, had a rash, wouldn't feed and had extremely bad diahorrea so was becoming dehydrated. He was referred to Ward 19 in Wishaw General Hospital and the receiving doctor was so kind and helpful.
He had to have various blood tests and a lumbar puncture and the doctor explained it all so concisely and assured us that he would take good fo our baby. He made a terrible situation that much more bearable with his wonderful manner, he was so caring and made us feel our baby was safe. Our son was admitted to Ward 20 in Wishaw General Hospital to have IV fluids and antibiotics and await the results. He was there for 3 days.
I was so worried and my husband had to look after our 2 other children so I was alone in the hospital most of the time, with a very sick baby. The care that my son received in that Ward was second to none. They didn't just do what was required, they went above and beyond. They had so much time for my son and I could see that were run off their feet, but they didn't make me feel that they were rushing with him. The took time to talk to him and the ward was clearly full of staff who love the job they do and could not be more helpful. They also looked after me even though I was not their patient. They made me feel that I was not alone and that they were always there for any issue, even small concerns I was having.
I really cannot thank the staff of Ward 20 enough. Of course I hope we never have to go back, but if we did I would be confident in the knowledge that it is full of hard working and knowledgeable people who have an abundance of enthusiasm for their jobs, jobs which are extremely difficult!
