What I liked
My son (age 3) was treated by the children’s day surgery team where he had a general anaesthetic. In our pre-operative assessment meeting, we were seen on time and the staff could not have been more kind or well-informed. They explained what was going to happen in very simple terms to my son and answered all of my questions without rushing.
On the day of the operation, the play specialist had remembered my son's favourite toy from the play room and left it waiting for him on his bed which was so thoughtful. The consultant, anaesthetist and all the nursing team were kind, clear and reassuring. After his operation, they discussed pain relief with me, and asked for my opinion as to what level of medication he needed.
We were sent home with all our paperwork and clear advice on what to do next. One of the nurses even called us at home that afternoon to check we were OK.
Throughout the process we felt involved, reassured and cared for. My son is now recovering well at home. Thanks to everyone involved for their genuine care and professionalism.
"Genuine care and professionalism in QEII..."
