"Genuine care and professionalism in QEII..."

About: Queen Elizabeth I I Hospital (Welwyn Garden City)

What I liked

My son (age 3) was treated by the children’s day surgery team where he had a general anaesthetic. In our pre-operative assessment meeting, we were seen on time and the staff could not have been more kind or well-informed. They explained what was going to happen in very simple terms to my son and answered all of my questions without rushing.

On the day of the operation, the play specialist had remembered my son's favourite toy from the play room and left it waiting for him on his bed which was so thoughtful. The consultant, anaesthetist and all the nursing team were kind, clear and reassuring. After his operation, they discussed pain relief with me, and asked for my opinion as to what level of medication he needed.

We were sent home with all our paperwork and clear advice on what to do next. One of the nurses even called us at home that afternoon to check we were OK.

Throughout the process we felt involved, reassured and cared for. My son is now recovering well at home. Thanks to everyone involved for their genuine care and professionalism.

Thank you so much for your lovely comments, which we know the team at the QEII will be delighted to read. Of course they will say that this is the level of care they provide to children and their families, week in, week out, but we're sure hey will still appreciate their efforts being recognised so publicly through your kind feedback. All that remains is to wish your son a full and quick recovery.
