I recently was admitted to ward 28 for 8 nights following spinal fusion. I had waited a long time for this surgery, which was originally intended to be carried out in May 2018.
I felt very cared for from pre op, right through to discharge.
Pre op nurses were so supportive. The anaesthetist talked through my concerns about previous experiences and put my mind at ease.
I felt very confident in my surgeon, who explained everything so clearly and also has a great , friendly manner.
The whole ward team, whilst often stretched, did a great job. In particular the care assistants were so supportive through the very difficult times, ensuring I was treated with dignity, and providing reassurance.
The physiotherapists provided the right mix of support and authority to get me mobile.
Whilst I was aware of the ongoing bed crisis (which had delayed my surgery by 9 months), at no point did I feel pressured to go home before it was the right time. I ended up staying longer than I expected due to complications.
Thank you Neurosurgery and Ward 28 for great care.
