"The switchboard operator is just too rude!"

About: Birmingham Midland Eye Centre (Bmec)

I have been trying to return a phone call to 0121 507 6780 for the past couple of days to no avail. The phone is never answered and rings for minutes on end with no sign of an option to leave a voicemail. In an attempt to get through to somebody I called 0121 554 3801 and politely asked to be put through to the Urgent Care team at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre. Before I even had time to finish my sentence and I was put on hold and eventually found that I was put through to the ENT department. I was sent back to the switchboard operator and when I told her "I think I was put through to the ENT department by mistake, could I speak to somebody from the Urgent Care Team and the Eye Centre please" she very rudely laughed and said "okaaaay, wait there" and I was hung up on! Unnecessarily and extremely rude. I would have loved this exchange to have been face to face!

Thank you for sharing your feedback about your recent experience when trying to contact the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre to arrange an appointment. I am sorry for the way you were spoken to when you called our switchboard. This is not the standard of care we would expect from our staff and as such I have passed on your feedback to the manager for our switchboard, who will look into your complaint to ensure this doesn’t happen again. Kind regards, Toby Lewis, Chief Executive.
